Shutting Down Gitmo.

Fox News posted a story today about Defense Secretary Robert Gates who was speaking on the Presidents plan to shut down Gitmo (Guantanamo Bay, the prison in Cuba where terrorists are held. The masterminds of 9/11 are currently held there.) He said that the Presidents plan to shut it down may prove more difficult than anticipated. President Obama is already planning on pushing back the date for closing Gitmo. Defense Secretary Gates said that there is no problem with the President pushing the date back as long as there continues to be steady progress made towards the goal of shutting down Gitmo.
My response to this?- Why are we planning on shutting down Gitmo in the first place. I don't understand the Presidents logic here. The prison systems are already full to the brim, which is already costing U.S. taxpayers alot. Shutting down Guantanamo Bay would inevitably push those held there either back into society, or into the already over-crowded prison systems. No good can come of this either way, if you release all of them, you put dangerous men who have the potential to cause more damage and take more innocent lives out in society, and if you transfer them to the prison systems your just going to have prisons that are twice as packed, and its going to cost taxpayers more. I dunnnoooo just doesn't seem very smart to me, What do you think?
